Constantin-Chevalier is a beautiful Provençal château in the Côtes du Luberon, in the foothills of Provence. With nearly fifty acres of vines, the situation is ideal for making quality wines.
The gravelly soil resembles that of the great vineyards of the Rhône valley, and the modern wine cellars are housed in thick walled buildings dating back to the sixteenth century; ideal cool conditions for making and maturing wines in this sunny part of France.
The estate is a beautiful place to visit. Hillsides of impeccably nurtured vines are surrounded by olive groves, fruit orchards, and oak woods where truffles are to be found.
Allen and Marie-Laure Chevalier bought Château Constantin-Chevalier in 1990. They fell in love with the house and bought the vineyard that came with it. For the Chevaliers it was a complete change in lifestyle; exchanging the sophisticated world of a Paris advertising agency and a house in Versailles for the life of a vigneron in Provence.
Their aim was simple; to transform the Chateau and vineyard, and make some of the best possible wine in the appellation. After 17 years of hard work, it may be safely said they have succeeded, with a plethora of medals and awards for the wines, and a firm favourite as a destination for WineShare members.
The vineyard has been sold recently to William Chase, an Englishman who loves French wine. We'll have more information about his direction for Constantin shortly.
